Opening of the event with a solo exhibition by Damir Čučić
August 8th at 10:00 PM – Gallery of the Center for Culture
Visual artist Damir Čučić—professionally known as a film director and editor—presents himself in this exhibition through his working environment. He will transform the gallery into a film studio, where he will work daily throughout the exhibition’s duration on editing his film In Search of the Miraculous.
This abstract experimental film, shot in 2024, is currently in the image and sound editing phase. The material explores the idea of fatherhood—fragmented, unclear, hesitant, and fragile. It can be understood as a search for the artist’s own identity. Structurally, it is a symphony composed of four sequences, each with a different tempo, portrait, and character, yet all physically and thematically share the same father. In an in situ process, the artist shapes the portraits of his own children through sound and image, transfiguring the family album into abstract imprints of light. He extensively employs technical tools, optical obstructions, and special methods of film shooting and video generation. The aim of this installation is to create a light sculpture within the exhibition space—one that evokes unique interpretations and enables each viewer to feel emotion through abstraction in their own way. Whether he intended it or not, Damir Čučić, as both father and artist, is deeply intertwined with the film material. Driven by inner necessity, he seeks to create rhythm and harmony so that the forms, lines, and light of his children resonate and sing through the film screen.
